WORLD HUMANITARIAN SUMMIT, ISTANBUL, 23-24 MAY 2016

H.E Dr K.Jankee, Ambassador of Mauritius to the Federal Republic of Germany represented the Prime Minister to the World Humanitarian Summit held by the United Nations in Istanbul from 22 to 23 May 2016. The Mauritius delegation led by the Ambassador comprised of Mr K.Servansing, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Officer in charge of the SMF, Mrs P.Chittoo, Assistant Parliamentary Counsel and Member of the National Humanitarian Law Committee, Mrs K Ranmondhur-Ruggoo, Assistant Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, Mrs T.Prayag-Gujadhur, Second Secretary and Mrs A. Sahebally-Jauhangeer, Senior Cultural Officer, Ministry of Arts and Culture and Member of the National Humanitarian Law Committee.

The Summit which was held at the highest level provided the opportunity for global leaders from government, business and civil society to announce concrete actions and commitments to end conflict, alleviate suffering and reduce risk.

NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION

The Embassy hosted a reception on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius on 10 March at Maritim proArte, Berlin.

The Chief Guest was the Hon. Xavier Luc Duval G.C.S.K, F.C.A, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and External Communications.

The guests included members of the Mauritian diaspora, our Honorary Consuls in Stuttgart, Austria, Czech Republic and Turkey and members of the Mauritius delegation to the ITB.

The Chief Guest and the Ambassador appealed to the members of the Mauritian Diaspora to contribute to the economic development of Mauritius. They explained that the Government was creating incentives like the Mauritius Diaspora Scheme in order to attract the diaspora back to Mauritius.

VISIT OF THE HON. XAVIER LUC DUVAL G.C.S.K, F.C.A , DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, MINISTER OF TOURISM AND EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS TO BERLIN

The Hon. Xavier Luc Duval G.C.S.K, F.C.A Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and External Communications was on official mission in Berlin from 7 to 11 March 2016.

He led a delegation comprising of Mr Rechad Moolye, Deputy Permanent Secretary and representatives of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority and the Tourism Authority.

During his visit he he had a bilateral meeting with H.E MrS Nikolina Angelkova, Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria. Avenues of cooperation in the field of tourism were discussed.

VISIT OF THE HON. SANTARAM BABOO, MINISTER OF ARTS AND CULTURE TO BERLIN

The Hon. Santaram Baboo, Minister of Arts and Culture was on official mission in Berlin from 10 to 14 February 2016.

He led a delegation comprising of Dr N.Luckheenarain, Permanent Secretary, Mr Dick Ng Sui Wa, Chairman Mauritius Film Development Corporation and Mr Vikram Jootun, Director, Mauritius Film Development Corporation to the Berlinale 2016, the International Film Festival.

During his mission, the Hon. S. Baboo met with representatives of the Federal Foreign Office responsible for the foreign cultural policy in order to explore avenues of cooperation between Mauritius and Germany in the field of culture, and in particular the promotion of German language in Mauritius.

The Minister also held a press conference at the Embassy in order to promote Mauritius as a film shooting destination and to present the incentives which the Government is offering to potential film makers, including the Film Rebate Scheme.

Ambassador K. JANKEE presented his letters of credence to H.E. Mr Joachim GAUCK, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, on 23 September 2015 during a ceremony held at the Bellevue Palace in Berlin. Ambassador Jankee is henceforth accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mauritius to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Participation of the Mauritian Diaspora in the National Development

As you may be aware the Government of Mauritius is trying to create a database of Mauritian diaspora living abroad, with the help of the overseas missions.
In this context, the Government has devised a caption form which contains essential and non-essential information on the persons living abroad. The database of Mauritian diaspora will be based on information contained in the caption form.
The Embassy would be grateful if members of the diaspora could kindly fill in the caption form and return it to the Embassy as soon as possible.
