Mauritius - Russia

Mauritius and Russia established diplomatic relations on 17 March 1968. The Mauritius Embassy in Moscow was opened in August 2003. Mr Mahendr Dosieah, the first Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius to the Russian Federation presented his Letters of Credence to President Putin on 25 July 2006.

H.E. Mr. Maheswarsingh Khemloliva, Ambassador of the Republic of Mauritius to the Russian Federation, presented his Credentials to H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, on Thursday 26 November 2015 at the Kremlin.

The relations between Mauritius and the Russian Federation have grown steadily over the years. There has been a general increase in the number of Russian tourists, Mauritius has obtained market access for the export of fishery products to the territories of the Eurasian Customs, Mauritius and Russia signed a visa waiver agreement on 23 December 2015, and a number of Mauritian students choose Russia to pursue their tertiary studies. Mauritius and Russia also have regular political consultations between their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

Russia contributes to the socio-economic development of Mauritius by providing scholarships and training facilities in various fields.
